Originally a part of Cherokee County, Forsyth County, Georgia, settled following the gold rush in Northern Georgia. It was named for John Forsyth, who governed Georgia from 1827-1829 before Forsyth County was officially partitioned in 1832. Throughout the rest of the 1800s and early 1900s, the area was known as being relatively poor and only used for agriculture. However, by the 1950s, the poultry industry made its way toward Forsyth county, and population began to grow. In 1971, Hwy 400 was extended up to Cumming and it drove even more people to the area.
Today, Forsyth County is known as a fast-growing suburb of Atlanta, with many metro Atlantan's relocating once they are sick of city life. Luckily, there is still a lot to do and residents have the luxury of being able to travel to downtown Atlanta or up to the North Georgia Mountains for some nature and relaxation. Forsyth County's largest city is Cumming, and is made up of several unincorporated communities, such as Alpharetta, Ball Ground, Cumming, Duluth, Gainesville, and Suwanee.
